josephine butler parks center wedding

Kathy and David // Josephine Butler Parks Center, Washington, DC Wedding // DC wedding coordinator

Photo by Michael O. Snyder Yet another beautiful wedding that Tarra coordinated this year at one of my favorite venues, Josephine Butler Parks Center. Let's hand it over to Tarra for more details!

What a treat this wedding was to work!  Kathy and David planned the most love-filled wedding there could be. Beginning with the warm and charming Josephine Butler Parks Center. It was important to them for their wedding to mean just a little bit more. David, a lawyer, and Kathy, owner of a non-profit writing program for marginalized youth, are both very much involved with giving back to their D.C. community.  So what better way than to host their wedding at an amazing venue that stands for community safety, health, education, arts, architecture, and agriculture?  Not only is JBPC centrally located in D.C., its mission is to grow city-wide park-based community health and vitality by nurturing innovation and partnerships.  Kathy and David took great comfort in knowing their venue rental fee went towards supporting such an important and meaningful establishment.

The love was also felt by the volume of friends and family they invited to this joyous event. I must say the reception space was completely maxed out, but Kathy and David would not have had it any other way.  Surrounding themselves with love and laughter on their wedding day as well as great food and drinks is exactly what they wanted to accomplish. And Spilled Milk definitely delivered on the great food part!

There was no shortage of beauty in the space either.  With Kathy’s wonderful mother at the helm of the décor plan, Yellow Door Floral Design provided quite the array of stunning floral arrangements. In addition to the guest tables, every nook, cranny, and fireplace mantle at JBPC was accounted for in terms of flowers and candles.  It was really a treat to work with and watch this team of vendors transform this already beautiful space into an even more beautiful space.

Though I did not join in the festivities, I was so delighted to see Michael O. Snyder Photography’s super fun and artistic shots of Kathy, David, and some guests at the National Mall.  A place that is very near and dear to Kathy and Davids’ hearts. They were transported there in true D.C. style via the Old Town Trolley post-reception.  Yet another loving aspect of this wonderful wonderful wedding! Congrats again Kathy and David!

Rachel and Andrew // Josephine Butler Parks Center, Washington, DC Wedding/ DC Wedding Coordinator

Photo by Sarah Gormley Full disclosure - this wedding happened a long time ago. But I just got my hands on the stunning photos, and I simply HAD to share. So close your eyes and pretend for a moment that we're not in the depths of winter, but instead on the cusp of fall - and then open your eyes and sink into these beautiful photos by Sarah Gormley (which features one of my very favorite first-look shots of a groom EVER).

I was coordinator for Rachel and Andrew's October wedding. They were such a wonderful couple - so easy-going and fun and in love! In addition to their modern, fall colors (guys, those bridesmaid dresses are my FAVORITE - not to mention the lovely florals by Eight Tree Street), they also incorporated DC-related items including a Metro theme for their table numbers, menus, escort cards, and even bottles of wine they had guests sign for various anniversaries (love this) - and their Fluffy Thoughts cake was adorned with DC monuments. They had a slightly non-traditional menu with different themed stations/buffets rather than a plated dinner. And then they part-ayed the night away (as you shall see).

Very belated congrats to the wonderful Rachel and Andrew!

Melissa and Tashia // Josephine Butler Parks Center Wedding, Washington, DC // DC Wedding Planner

In case you couldn’t tell, wedding season hit. Hence the silence on this here blog. The good news, however, is that the photos from the rad, beautiful and fun weddings I worked on this spring are rolling in and I have one of my favorites to share with you today - Melissa and Tashia’s Hollywood glam wedding at Josephine Butler Parks Center, with photos by Chris Ferenzi.

I met Melissa and Tashia way back when at last year’s Say I Do Expo (which I was sadly unable to attend this year due to another wedding). They hired me to help them nail down some of their major decisions and vendors, and then work with them on month-of coordination.

Here’s the thing about Melissa and Tashia - they are one of the sweetest couples you’ll ever meet. Their love for each other is truly palpable, they’re both insanely smart and ambitious, and they’re just a joy to be around. Not to mention - I finally got myself a bride in pants!!! (in case you weren’t aware of my obsession, see here). And good grief, what a hot bride in pants Tashia was (and that vest, and that lace… I could go on). Melissa rocked it equally hard with a stunning dress that featured a bolero she removed for the reception (hot hot hot) and those smokin’ red lips. She also had ridiculously hot shoes that somehow weren't photographed but trust me when I say they were beautiful. I had to get that out of the way cause I was completely obsessed with their bridal attire.

Ok.

Melissa and Tashia DIY’d a lot of their wedding and you’d never freaking know it. Melissa’s mother did the flowers (can you believe it?), Tashia’s cousin DJ’d, and they created all their own signage and a great record guest book!

After some getting ready pics, a first look, and fun family and bridal party shots, they had their ceremony. Filled with tears, laughter and rainbow tissues, it was simply beautiful. I can’t get over the smiles on their faces.

Cocktails were followed by a delicious meal by Main Event Catering - and then they danced and danced and danced.

I’ll let the rest of the photos speak for themselves, except to mention that M&T hired Tiny Paper Portraits to do hand-cut portraits for their guests. It was a huge hit and they were such a pleasure to work with. Such an awesome, classy alternative to the photo booth. Get on that, people.

Congrats again to Melissa and Tashia! You're such a beautiful couple, inside and out.
